Let me help you find the best flat iron for your hair!
Flat irons are of course principally for straightening your hair. However, this tool can be used for many uses. Some people even use them to quickly iron their clothes (ha!). They actually have multiple uses for styling your hair besides straightening it. Flat irons, when used correctly, can be used to give your hair volume, curls, and beachy waves.
Creating beachy waves with your flat iron is easier than you may think. It’s important to first thoroughly blow dry your hair and use a leave in conditioner. It’s also a good idea to use a heat protectant spray to keep your hair from getting damaged. Personally, I also like to use a salt spray as it usually helps me achieve that beachy look.

One of them is bending your hair in an “S” shape. This means that you wind your hair back in forth in this pattern, sort of like a ribbon. Then you take your flat iron and clamp it over the section for a few seconds. When you release, you’ll have beautiful waves! This should be done in different sized sections depending on your hair. The longer and thicker hair you have, the smaller sections you will need to take to achieve the look. This is how:
Another technique involves multiple clamps on each section of hair. You begin at the roots and clamp down while twisting under. Then you move the flat iron down a bit and twist it in the opposite direction. You continue this until you reach the ends of your hair. As with the other style, this should be done in different sized sections depending on your hair. See this tutorial on YouTube for more instructions:
One further technique to try is to braid your hair and then clamp your flat iron down your braid, moving line by line, until you reach the end of the braid. It’s important to let your braid cool completely before shaking it out to reveal beachy waves. Watch this tutorial to see how easy it is:
With each technique, it’s a good idea to use a texturizing lotion afterwards. Rub a small bit on your hands and then use your fingers to tousle and pull apart the hair to give it the look that you’ve just come back from a day at the beach.
Most of us can’t actually go to the beach daily (unfortunately!) but with these techniques you can look like you’ve spent the day soaking up the sun. Best of all, you can do it with your flat iron so there’s no need to buy any new hair tools! It’s a great style to try out to mix things up and go for a new look while still be super easy and not taking much time to do at all.
